Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry was established in the college with an aim to impart quality technical education particularly in the branch of engineering chemistry with emphasis on chemical characterization of engineering materials. These goals are being achieved through constant effective teaching and simultaneously imparting practical training to the engineering students at the 1st year level. There are a few Interdisciplinary courses in which the department is fully engaged viz. chemical characterization of materials through instrumental techniques for 3rd year Metallurgy student under India REC-UK collaborative 'Materials Theme Project'. 

The department is recognized as an important R&D centre and also as a centre for Ph.D. programme of Nagpur University. Since the inception of the deptt., more than 30 research scholars have Ph.D. degrees from Nagpur University. Eight research scholars have been awarded  Ph.D. degree of Nagpur university since 1990 and about 100 publications have appeared in national and international journals of repute. The department of chemistry is also offering projects to B.E. final year Metallurgy students which are indeed of industrial relevance and importance. The department of chemistry also undertakes testing & consultancy works of industrial importance.

Continuing Education Programme

	Short courses on chemical characterization of engineering materials through instrumental methods.
	Studies on copolymers of aniline with its derivatives for electronics applications.
	AICTE sponsored STTP on Applications of chemistry in engineering & technology was conducted during Oct.28 to Nov. 08-2003.
